Turkmenistan Showcased Oil and Gas Potential at ADIPEC 2024

Turkmenistan’s oil and gas sector took centre stage at the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC), held from 4 to 7 November, 2024 in the UAE capital Abu Dhabi. As one of the world’s premier energy forums, ADIPEC annually gathers tens of thousands of industry leaders, experts, and representatives from the largest global energy companies.

The Turkmen stand highlighted large-scale investment projects and the country’s latest achievements in the oil and gas sector, drawing strong interest from international industry players. Turkmenistan’s delegation was led by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Mr B. Amanov, who oversees the energy sector, alongside the State Minister and Chairman of the State Concern "Turkmengas" Mr M. Babayev and the Chairman of the State Concern "Turkmennebit" Mr G. Agajanov.

The road map to ADIPEC 2024 involved close collaboration between Turkmenistan’s State Concerns and Turkmen Energy Forum ES (TEF), with the State Concerns acting as the exhibitors and Turkmen Energy Forum providing advisory and support services. The State Concerns, including Turkmengas, Turkmennebitand Turkmengeology showcased their latest achievements and investment projects at the exhibition, representing Turkmenistan's growing role in the global energy sector.

Meanwhile, Turkmen Energy Forum ES played a crucial role as a strategic advisor, coordinating the participation of the State Concerns and offering guidance on the most effective way to present Turkmenistan's energy potential. This collaboration ensured a seamless and impactful presence at ADIPEC 2024, with TEF also supporting the development of presentations, securing key meetings with international industry players, and enhancing visibility for Turkmenistan's oil and gas sector. Through this partnership, the Turkmen Energy Forum ES helped position Turkmenistan as an attractive destination for foreign investment and technological collaboration, reinforcing the country’s commitment to innovation and sustainable energy development.

During the event, members of the Turkmen delegation held high-level discussions with executives from leading companies such as Dragon Oil, ADNOC, Halliburton, and Petronas. Talks focused on technology exchange, investment prospects, and collaborative projects, including participation in regional and international energy initiatives.

The Turkmenistan stand attracted more than 10,000 visitors from international energy companies. Attendees explored multimedia presentations demonstrating cutting-edge technologies used in the Turkmen oil and gas sector, as well as the country’s vast natural resources and energy potential. Turkmen delegates actively contributed to ADIPEC’s conference programme, engaging in discussions on key industry topics such as decarbonisation across production, transport, and refining, as well as the role of artificial intelligence in the energy transition.

As part of the business agenda, the delegation delivered presentations on Turkmenistan’s latest achievements in the energy sector, particularly in sustainable development and the adoption of innovative technologies. Special attention was given to projects aimed at expanding the country’s natural gas exports and attracting foreign investment. A key focus was the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline, a project of strategic importance designed to ensure stable gas supplies to South Asia. The TAPI presentation garnered significant interest, reinforcing Turkmenistan’s role as a vital player in the global energy landscape.

Foreign investors were introduced to opportunities in offshore blocks 11, 12, 16, 21, and 23, as well as initiatives to enhance production at mature fields. Development plans for the Turkmenbashi Complex of Oil Refineries and the Seydi Oil Refinery were also outlined, highlighting efforts to integrate advanced technologies and improve product quality and competitiveness. The energy transition was another key topic, with discussions on alternative energy solutions and the sustainable development of energy systems. The role of natural gas as an environmentally friendly transition fuel was particularly emphasised.

Organised by ADNOC, ADIPEC 2024 served as a strategic platform for Turkmenistan to strengthen its global market presence, showcase its commitment to innovation, and foster partnerships with international stakeholders. The country’s emphasis on the environmental aspects of energy development was also a central theme. Turkmenistan’s participation at ADIPEC 2024 marked a significant step in reinforcing its position as a major energy player. The event provided a valuable opportunity to highlight the nation’s energy sector achievements, present ambitious investment projects, and build mutually beneficial relationships with leading global companies.
