Ashgabat Hosts Turkmenistan–Malaysia: 30 Years of Cooperation in the Oil and Gas Sector Conference
An international conference and exhibition marking the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s partnership with the Malaysian energy company PETRONAS were held in Ashgabat on March 19–20. The events took place in the presence of the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, and the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Anwar Ibrahim.
A key outcome of the forum was the signing of a new production-sharing agreement in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea between Turkmennebit, Petronas Carigali (Turkmenistan), and Hazarnebit. The parties also concluded a series of agreements covering aviation, education, and the training of diplomatic personnel.
The event gathered leading international energy and engineering companies, including SLB, Halliburton, Dragon Oil, Malaysia Petroleum Resources Corporation, and Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering, alongside Turkmen state enterprises, research institutes, and specialized educational institutions.
The international scientific and practical conference in Ashgabat underscored that over the past three decades, cooperation between Turkmenistan and PETRONAS has served as an example of stable, mutually beneficial, and long-term partnership. The discussions and initiatives presented at the forum further highlighted both sides’ commitment to jointly developing effective solutions to pressing technological and environmental challenges.
